Feasibility study for measurement of double-differential neutron flux using half-Bonner sphere neutron spectrometer

Abe, Shinichiro; Takahashi, Fumiaki

no journal, ,

Non-destructive faults (the so-called soft errors) in microelectronic devices caused by environmental radiation is recognized as a reliability problem. In our previous study, it was found that the incident direction of neutrons has impact on soft error rate. Double differential flux (DDF) of environmental neutrons is estimated by PARMA 4.0, but there is no measured data. In this study, we perform feasibility study for measurement of double differential neutron flux using half Bonner sphere neutron spectrometer (HBSS) through PHITS simulation. Response functions of HBSS were calculated by PHITS. It is found that the response function change in accordance with the change of the neutron incident direction. Moreover, to validate whether DDF obtained from unfolding of HBSS data corresponds with original DDF, we are calculating irradiations of neutron with DDF obtained from PARMA 4.0 on HBSS changing the radius and direction of the hemispherical moderator.

Electron track structure analysis by PHITS

no journal, ,

A general purpose particle transport simulation code, PHITS is expected to apply dose evaluation in macroscopic systems as well as radiation interaction investigation in nanoscale for study of interaction between radiations and materials. To clear the problem, we developed track structure mode codes of the PHITS. We predicted yields of the DNA damage by the mode. We found that the mode could reproduce experimental results of the DNA damage yields by electron irradiation into the cells. The PHITS could evaluate radiation dose of cellar size. The track structure mode made the prediction of DNA damage yields possible.

Relation between thermal radiation intensity and band structure of graphene on Au

Terasawa, Tomoo; Yasuda, Satoshi; Hayashi, Naoki*; Norimatsu, Wataru*; Ito, Takahiro*; Machida, Shinichi*; Asaoka, Hidehito

no journal, ,

Graphene shows absorptivity and emissivity of 2.3% independent from the wavelength, however, the wavelength selectivity of the optical properties is required for device applications. Here we report the observation of the electronic band structure and thermal radiation of graphene grown on hex-Au(001) structure. The thermal radiation of graphene grown on hex-Au(001) was decreased in the optical microscopy which observed the light with the wavelength of 700-900 nm. The same sample showed the modified band structure observed by angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We will discuss the relation between the thermal radiation and band structure of graphene on Au substrates.

Application of InGaP solar cell to dosimeter for alpha-ray

Okuno, Yasuki; Imaizumi, Mitsuru*; Okamoto, Tamotsu*; Kobayashi, Tomohiro*; Akiyoshi, Masafumi*; Goto, Yasuhito*

no journal, ,

In the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, it is important to specify the distribution and composition of the fuel debris by alpha ray dose analysis. InGaP solar cells is expected to detect alpha-rays because they have the thickness of about one micro meter, which is sufficiently thin with respect to the fly range of alpha-rays. Therefore, the ion irradiation tests with 5 MeV helium was conducted on InGaP solar cells, and the applicability of InGaP solar cells for alpha-ray detector was evaluated and discussed with the results of the experiment and simulation.

Soft X-ray photoemission spectroscopy of water-adsorbed titanium dioxide surfaces

no journal, ,

TiO$$_{2}$$ has been extensively studied because of high photocatalytic activity. However, the basic reaction process of photocatalysis has not been understood yet. In this study, the difference in water adsorption reaction between rutile and anatase was clarified using synchrotron radiation soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The OH component observed at the higher binding energy side was clearly confirmed in the rutile type TiOTiO$$_{2}$$, suggesting that the rutile type is more reactive to water adsorption.
